Devyn Barat, resides in northern New Jersey where, in addition to being a poet, he also paints, makes spiritual blends of incense, and teaches classes on various spiritual and metaphysical topics.

In his own words...

I began writing in kindergarten to impress a cute girl. By the fourth grade, I was writing scripts, short stories, poetry and lyrics. The need to create and express has always been in my blood, but the mediums always seemed to elude me. Words were my only outlet.. I think in poetry. Unfortunately I can't speak the way I think, and if I didn't get it out, I'd explode. With pen and paper, I express this passion.

For a period of time following my High School graduation, severe anxiety and panic attacks crippled my life. I spent that time in withdrawal, during which I studied literature and spirituality, pondered life’s mysteries, and found the strength to recover.

I find inspiration in the enjoyment of the arts and the study of mythology, metaphysics, religion, spirituality, and alternative lifestyles. I often attempt to bind these together with a common thread, illustrating universality.

My favorite poets are William Shakespeare and a long list of song writers (lyrics are poems set to music) including Ian Anderson, Jewel Kilcher, Jim Morrison, Paul O’Neil, Shel Silverstein, and many many more.
